Telling When a Pea Pod is Ready to Pick
Pea pods can be a little tricky, but with a little practice it is easy to tell which pods are ready to pick.
A newly developed pod starts out flat. The pod will then fatten, but fattens slightly faster than the peas inside. You should be able to feel the peas inside a ripe pod. Small peas are still very flavorful, but just don't give you as much pea for your pod.
Warning: A pod that is very large (may look a little dry or yellow-green) is an OVERRIPE pod and will not taste good (the pea will be dry as it is making the transition to a seed). If you squeeze the pod and do not feel any extra room between the shell and peas, the peas are likely overripe.
